What is the College of Arts & Sciences?

The College of Arts & Sciences includes 17 academic departments, 15 interdisciplinary programs, and 27 majors consisting of humanities, foreign language, math, science and the social sciences.  It is the largest academic college at the University of Kentucky.  We have the largest enrollment with over 5,800 undergraduate and graduate students.  There are over 400 devoted faculty members.  Please feel free to browse our list of academic options by going to http://www.as.uky.edu/majors-minors.

How do I apply to the College of Arts & Sciences? Are there any special requirements for my major?

When you apply to the University and select a major within the College of Arts & Sciences on your UK Admissions Application, you will automatically be enrolled within the college once you are accepted to the University of Kentucky.  If you would like to apply for admission to the University of Kentucky and the College of Arts & Sciences, please visit http://www.uky.edu/Admission/.

Can I double major within the academic college?

Yes, you are able to declare a double major if you are interested in more than one area of study.  We have wonderful academic advisors within the College of Arts & Sciences who will help you to select the correct classes you will need to earn a dual degree. 

What is A&S Wired?

A&S Wired is the college’s first Residential College.  Located in Keeneland Hall, you will be able to interact with students who share similar interest and goals.  A&S Wired offers a unique combination of technology-rich courses with an enhanced living-learning experience.  Students who join A&S Wired are given the latest version of the iPad2 which they are able to use in their Wired courses and across campus.  Students are also able to learn in a smaller classroom setting and have one-on-one connections with the A&S Wired faculty.  Please visit http://wired.as.uky.edu/to learn more about A&S Wired.

Do I have to be an A&S Major to join A&S Wired?

No, you do not have to be an Arts & Sciences major to join A&S Wired.  A&S Wired Residential College is open to any first-year UK student who wishes to be a part of enriched, hands-on learning experience.  The program is open to any major.

How do I apply to live in the A&S Wired Residential College?

In order to be eligible to receive a Living Learning Program offer, students must first complete a UK Housing application.  You will be able to find a UK Housing Application at http://www.uky.edu/Housing/undergraduate/apply.html

How do I set up a campus visit?

If you would like a campus tour you may contact the UK Visitors Center at (859) 257-3595 or visit their website at http://www.uky.edu/Admission/visitus.htm.  When scheduling a campus visit, please give the Visitors Center 2-3 weeks advance notice of when you would like to tour and visit campus so they can help to arrange your day.

Can I sit in on a class, speak to a professor within my major of interest, or tour A&S facilities?

Yes. When you are scheduling a campus tour with the Visitors Center you may request a special meeting to speak with a professor and/or even ask to sit in on a class. 

Are there any scholarships available? How do I apply for Arts & Sciences Scholarships?

Yes, the College of Arts & Sciences does offer a limited amount of scholarships to incoming students.  If you would like more information on the scholarships available within the College of Arts & Sciences please visit https://www.as.uky.edu/scholarships
