Hey there! My name is Aliyyah Sadek, and I am a rising third year in UK's Bachelor's to Law Undergraduate Education (BLUE) Program, working toward a degree in Political Science with a minor in Arabic and Islamic Studies on the pre-law track. As an Egyptian American girl who grew up in Lexington, attending UK has always been a dream of mine, and I couldn't be happier to be here. During my time here, my admiration for this institution has only grown stronger, and I am excited to pursue my dreams of attending UK's J. David Rosenberg College of Law.
Along with being a part of the Arts & Sciences Ambassador Program, I am also very involved in other campus organizations. I currently serve as the president of the BLUE Law Society, Director of Inclusion and Equity with the Student Government Association's Executive Team, the secretary of the Kentucky Undergraduate Journal for the Health Humanities (KUJHH), a Board Executive for Pi Sigma Alpha, the Political Science Honors Society, along with being a Dinsmore Pre-Law Minority program recipient.
When I'm not attending classes, I intern for the UK Legal Clinic, a pro-bono legal service serving low-income members of the community across the Commonwealth. I also conduct political science research in judicial politics, with a focus on implicit bias in the judicial and jury decision-making process. My research aims to explore the underlying factors that influence these decisions and propose measures to mitigate the effects of racial and religious bias in the legal system.
I also enjoy advocating for students and am very involved with many of UK's committees. I was appointed to serve on the University Appeals Board (UAB), which is charged with hearing appeals involving academic and disciplinary matters. I was also appointed to serve on the University of Kentucky Equal Opportunity Committee (EOC) which provides advice on all University-wide matters of equal opportunity. Finally, I am a proud member of the Student Success Student Advisory Committee (SSSAC) which is charged with providing recommendations to enhance the student experience.
When I'm not in class, I love to explore all that the University of Kentucky has to offer. You can find me mingling with fellow students in the Gatton Student Center, admiring the beautiful plants and trees at the Arboretum, or hitting the books at the King library. If you have any questions about campus life, or just want to chat about your own experiences, please don't hesitate to reach out. I'm always here to offer guidance and support!
