Hello! My name is Mariam Younis, and I am a sophomore working towards a degree in biology and a certificate in Medical Behavioral Science. I am originally from Alexandria, Egypt, but I have been lucky enough to call Lexington home for the past seven years. Also, I am on the pre-med track with the goal of attending medical school and becoming a primary care physician.
In addition to being a College of Arts and Sciences Ambassador, I currently serve as the Secretary of the Students’ Association of the Middle East and North Africa, Media Lead of End Overdose at UKY, and as a Step-Up Fellow, which is part of a service-learning program held by the International Studies Program. I am also a student researcher in Dr. Julie Pendergast’s lab, as well as a member of MediKids, Global Health Book Club, Muslim Student Association, and the Lewis Honors College.
UK has opened so many doors in my life - here, I have found myself immersed in an environment of excellence that has pushed me towards fulfilling my academic and social potential like nothing else. Please feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions!
