2024-2025 Ambassador Program Application

Dear Prospective Ambassador,

Thank you for your interest in the Arts & Sciences Ambassador Program. Please take a moment to review the information below. The 2024-2025 A&S Ambassador Program application deadline will be on March 1, 2024. If you have any questions about the application, please contact ASRecruiting@uky.edu

History

The College of Arts & Sciences initiated its first Student Ambassador Program in the Fall of 1999. This highly selective group of A&S students aims to promote pride in a liberal arts education and to assist in strengthening the identity of both the College of Arts & Sciences and the University of Kentucky. The A&S Ambassadors develop leadership and communication skills while representing the college to visitors, alumni, and prospective and current students.

Activities

A&S Ambassadors have a wide range of responsibilities, including but not limited to:

  • Participation in UK recruiting efforts such as UK Preview Nights, Open Houses, and other high school outreach events
  • Service to fellow students in the form of Merit Weekends, K-week, Admitted Student Days, and additional A&S events.
  • Representation of the college during homecoming, various alumni meetings, receptions, advisory board activities, and similar events deemed appropriate by the Dean of the College
  • Creation of original content for the A&S Ambassador website and social media outlets.
  • Acting as a student advocate in regards to issues important to A&S students

Qualifications

Qualified applicants must be full-time undergraduate students (enrolled in at least 12 hours) with their primary degree declared in the College of Arts & Sciences. At least 24 credit hours at the University of Kentucky Campus must be earned by the end of the Spring Semester with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00. Qualified applicants must possess a positive attitude with a commitment to learning more about the College of Arts & Sciences and adapt well to an ever-growing, ever-changing environment.

Selection Process

Completed applications are reviewed by an Arts & Sciences Committee with emphasis on: desire to convey pride in the College of Arts & Sciences; effective oral and written communication skills; interest and involvement in campus activities; willingness to commit time and energy to the program; and an ability to adapt to new environments. The top candidates will be invited for individual interviews with the Committee. Final selections will be made after the interviews have been completed.

Training & Class/Meetings

Training is provided; regular attendance to class/meetings is required. The ambassador class will tentatively be held on Monday afternoons at 3:00 PM. An A&S Ambassador is expected to adjust his/her schedule so there are no conflicts – attendance at the training session and at meetings is mandatory.  Students selected for the A&S Ambassador Program will be awarded one-hour elective course credit for their participation with the class/program.  The course will be offered as A&S elective.

Length of Service

Ambassadors serve for one year, as long as they are actively enrolled as full-time (at least 12 hours) undergraduates in the College, maintain a 3.00 cumulative GPA, and complete other requirements as established.
