Graduate School

Apply for Admission

All applications to the University of Kentucky Graduate School must be submitted on-line. You may apply for as many programs as you wish, but each application requires completion of a separate application form and submission of a separate application fee. Currently the fee for domestic applicants is $50.00 per application and for international applicants the fee is $65.00.

Step 1 in the process is to create an “account” to submit the application form. You will be asked to supply an e-mail address and a password. Do not lose this information; you will need it if you wish to return to continue an unfinished application or review a completed application. You will also need this information to pay the application fee if you did not do so at the time of application submission. Please note however that we cannot process your application without this fee, so it is strongly recommended that you pay at the time of application submission or soon thereafter.

Once your application has been entered into our data-base, you will receive a confirmatory e-mail that includes your University of Kentucky ID number. Please use this in all future communications with us.

In addition to the completed application form, the following materials are also required:

Official transcripts - We require transcripts from all post-secondary institutions you have attended (University of Kentucky graduates are not required to submit UK transcripts). One set of transcripts should be sent to the Graduate School at the following address:

The Graduate School
Attn: Admissions Office
201 Gillis Building
Lexington, KY 40506-0033

A second set of transcripts should be sent to the address listed for the Director of Graduate Studies of your program.

Transcripts should be sent directly from each college or university attended. An overall undergraduate grade point average of 2.75 and 3.00 on all graduate work is required of degree-seeking students. Individual programs may have higher requirements.

Official GRE scores - These scores should be sent directly from Educational Testing Service (ETS). The Institution Code for UK Graduate School is R1837. Please note that GRE scores are NOT required for admission to Social Work (M.S.W. only), Rehabilitation Counseling and Dentistry (domestic students only) or for admission as a post-baccalaureate, non-degree-seeking, fifth year, rank I or other certification student. Some programs require GMAT rather than GRE scores including Accounting (M.S.) and Business Administration (M.B.A. or Ph.D.). GMAT or GRE is accepted by Economics (Ph.D.), Health Administration (M.H.A.), Public Administration (M.P.A. or Ph.D.) and Public Health (M.P.H. or Ph.D.; scores are not required for applicants with an M.D., D.M.D., D.D.S., Pharm.D., D.V.M., D.O., D.N.P., D.Sc., or Ph.D.).

Official TOEFL or IELTS scores - All applicants whose native language is not English are required to submit one of these scores directly from the testing service. The minimum acceptable TOEFL score is 550 (paper-based) 213 (computer-based) or 79 (internet-based). The minimum IELTS score is 6.5. Submitted scores must be no more than two years old.

NOTE: Many graduate programs at the University of Kentucky require the completion of secondary (program-specific) application forms and/or the submission of additional supporting documents such as letters of recommendation. These items should be sent directly to the Director of Graduate Studies for the program of interest. For further information on program-specific requirements, see Graduate Degree Programs.
